Victoria Hall Oakham, Rutland

The Victoria Hall is located in the centre of the market town of Oakham in the County of Rutland. Known as The Agricultural Hall from its construction, the building was utilised as a meeting place and library for Rutland’s farmers.

Victoria Hall is now one of Rutland’s leading multi-functional event venues, this fantastic hall oozes life, fun and warmth and offers the perfect setting for a wide range of events.

The Hall is a perfect location for wedding receptions and parties and is a superb space for a business event or exhibition; it hosts weekly line dancing, ballroom dancing, yoga and fitness classes; is the location for the Oakham Quality Market and The Oakham Vintage Fair and many other regular events including antique and collectables fairs, fair-trade events, community and charity events. Wonderful art exhibitions are routinely held in the ground floor gallery space.

Everest wristwatch by Robert Loomes

Stamford-made “Everest” wristwatch to be auctioned for charity. Bonhams Auctioneers are holding an online auction in aid of the Mountain Trust. The Loomes watch which summited Everest in May is being sold to raise money for the Mountain Trust.
The Mountain Trust is a Cambridgeshire based charity which raises money for education and healthcare in Nepal, one of the poorest countries in the world. It seemed fitting that after the Royal Gurkha Regiment climbers summited Everest this year could use the event to raise money for that part of the world. Lt Chris Boote of the climbing team said “it was an honour to take this watch to the top, knowing it would raise much needed funds for the people here.” Nepal suffered devastating earthquakes in 2015 when the first such attempt had to be abandoned as the team turned instead to disaster relief work.
The event was inspired by Edmund Hillary’s conquest of Everest in 1953, wearing a British made wristwatch. Loomes are one of only a tiny number of British watch manufacturers and this is the only all-British-made watch to have summited Everest this century. Hand-built in Stamford using a 19 jewel Smiths based mechanism, the watch has a unique dial, made specifically for the Mountain Trust.

School dinners shoot

If you are one of those parents (like me!) who never managed to see what their children eat at school – this might be your chance! Read our feature about school dinners in the October issue of Stamford Living. I had the pleasure of visiting some of our local schools to shoot their dinners and was impressed by the choice, creativity and quality.Screen Shot 2017-09-25 at 23.12.04 Screen Shot 2017-09-25 at 23.12.17 Screen Shot 2017-09-25 at 23.12.28
